Dr. John Cavanaugh, appointed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) to chair the 2015-16 evaluation team for Ming Chuan University’s re-accreditation, conducted an advance site visit at MCU October 19 and 20, 2015.
In his remarks during the exit interview, Dr. Cavanaugh commended MCU for the obvious committed efforts of the Steering Committee, Working Groups and the university community in conducting the Self Study and having prepared the draft report. He noted that the multi-page list of comments and questions on the draft that he provided in advance in no way indicated that there is any problem with the Self-Study, rather that his notes should encourage MCU that the draft is robust enough to engage in productive discussion over.
MCU President Lee expressed his gratitude for such an experienced team chair as Dr. Cavanaugh to offer his insights and guidance to MCU as the Self-Study Report is finalized in preparation for the MSCHE evaluation team’s visit April 10-13, 2016.
Dr. Cavanaugh’s visit began with an introductory meeting with MCU’s President Lee. Subsequently, he learned more about MCU through briefings by the Deans of Academic, Student and General Affairs, as well as the Executive Director of Research and Development Division. He met with several members of the Board of Directors and student representatives, and engaged in much productive discussion with the Self-Study Steering Committee and Working Groups. Moreover, he toured Taipei and Taoyuan campuses, and experienced Jihe Complex by being accommodated at the Ming Chuan Hotel there.
Vice President for International Affairs (VPIA) Dr. Robert Yien noted the great benefit gleaned from the two days of interaction with Dr. Cavanaugh, while Self-Study Steering Committee Co-chair, Dr. Nellie Cheng commented how helpful the written feedback and subsequent question and answer periods were to refine the Self-Study Report so that it can better represent all that Ming Chuan does by way of programming and conducting continuous assessment and improvements.
Dr. Yien and VPIA Special Assistant Mr. Andy Lee will meet with Dr. Cavanaugh during the December 2015 MSCHE Annual Conference to confirm details of the April visit.
